Personal guidance and tailored advice

Everyone is different. That is why every process with us starts with a free, no-obligation personal consultation. Together, we map out your goals, expectations and any concerns you may have. This allows us to create a treatment and prosthesis plan that truly suits you.

Care before, during and after your amputation

Are you looking for adapted care? Have you just been told that an amputation is unfortunately necessary, or are you already recovering? Perhaps you have been walking with a prosthesis for years due to a congenital defect? You or your healthcare provider (surgeon, rehabilitation doctor, general practitioner, physiotherapist, nurse, occupational therapist) can contact the Amputee Care Center for support at every stage. This includes preparation for surgery, wound care, a customised prosthesis, insurance matters, psychosocial support, getting used to your prosthesis, support and coaching while wearing it, coaching on your prosthesis, gait analysis and walking school, annual review and aftercare.

Free gait and walking analysis

Good walking posture with your prosthetic leg and prosthetic adjustment make a big difference in comfort and mobility. Your gait pattern with a prosthetic leg is analysed at the UPLAB, a biomechanical research centre that is part of Spronken Orthopaedics in Genk (Belgium).

Advanced gait analysis for prosthesis wearers

The UPLAB is a unique and innovative concept where prosthesis users can have their walking or running performance analysed in detail using digital technologies. With the help of high-speed cameras, pressure mats, a medical treadmill and 3D scanners, posture, gait pattern, pressure distribution and muscle activity are accurately mapped.

The goal? To optimise your walking pattern with a prosthetic leg, improve wearing comfort and enhance your performance.
Based on this data, UPLAB creates a complete biomechanical profile of your body and posture with a prosthesis. The analysis starts with an intake and includes both indoor and, if necessary, outdoor screenings. The approach is both preventive (injury prevention, adjustment) and curative (in case of complaints), and always performance-oriented.

With our free gait and walking analysis in our own prosthetics centre, we examine your movement pattern and optimise your prosthesis where necessary.

Testing prostheses is important

Did you know that at ACC you can test different prostheses or prosthetic components before making a choice? This allows you to experience for yourself what suits you best. A final prosthesis will only be provided after the testing phase, once you are satisfied.

At the Amputee Care Center, you can test a prosthesis before making a final decision. This allows you to experience what suits your stump, gait and lifestyle best. You can avoid pressure points and discover the difference between mechanical and electronic systems. The testing process reduces adjustment stress and provides objective data that increases your chances of reimbursement through RIZIV or your health insurance fund. In short: more comfort, better performance and a well-informed choice.

Leg prosthesis in one day – thanks to the Direct Fitting technique

More and more amputee specialists and prosthesis wearers are opting for the Direct Fitting method when requesting a new leg prosthesis. Thanks to this prosthesis technique, we can measure, manufacture and deliver a leg prosthesis in one day.

The fit is adjusted directly to your residual limb with digital precision, allowing you to walk comfortably on the same day. The result: a faster, more efficient and customer-oriented solution.

Follow-up and guidance after osseointegration

Have you opted for osseointegration (bone-anchored prosthesis)? Then ACC is the right place for you to have a new prosthesis made, receive long-term guidance, have your prosthesis adjusted, and receive support during the recovery process and beyond.

Our locations

Various fitting locations in Belgium and the Netherlands

Our prosthesis fitting locations are spread across Belgium and the Netherlands, both in our own branches and in hospitals and rehabilitation centres.

Everything under one roof in Genk (Belgium)

The Amputee Care Center in Genk (BE) is the heart of our operations in the Euregio. It is centrally located at the border triangle of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Here you will find everything under one roof: a specialised prosthetics team of orthopaedic instrument makers, bandagers, orthopaedic advisors, prosthetists, engineers, coaches and rehabilitation experts. Prostheses are made in a modern orthopaedic workshop, supported by experts in the UPLab, an advanced gait analysis centre and an Experience Garden (outdoor gait analysis). This allows you to benefit from the latest technologies in prosthetic care.

Reva Garden Geel - Antwerp Kempen (Belgium)

In addition, our prosthesis patients can visit the Reva Garden in the Antwerp Kempen. This is a unique rehabilitation garden (at the Geel hospital rehabilitation centre) where patients and care providers can practise and recover in peace and quiet. It is freely accessible by appointment for those who live in the region.

Your hospital, rehabilitation centre or home

On request, we can also visit you in Belgium or the Netherlands at your hospital, rehabilitation centre or home to discuss the options with you.

What does a no-obligation second opinion consultation entail?

A second opinion at Amputee Care Center is completely free of charge and without obligation. We take the time to analyse your current situation, review your prosthesis or treatment plan and give you honest, brand-independent advice. You are under no obligation. It is primarily intended to help you gain insight into other possibilities or solutions. Of course, we will be happy to help you further afterwards!

What does “leg prosthesis in one day” mean?

At ACC, in certain cases, we can measure, make and deliver a leg prosthesis within one day. This is possible thanks to Direct Fitting prosthesis technology and our team of experienced prosthetic technicians.

The Direct Fit method is suitable for all amputation levels, all activity levels and both beginners and experienced wearers, including immediately after amputation. This encourages early mobilisation.

What is a gait and walking analysis and why is it important?

A gait and walking analysis examines how you walk with or without a prosthesis. This is done using sensors, pressure plates and video analysis in our own prosthetics centre. This gives us insight into your walking pattern. This information helps us to optimally adjust your prosthesis and prevent complaints such as back pain or overexertion.

Can I come and test my prosthesis?

Yes, you can! At Amputee Care Center, we believe it is important that a prosthesis really suits you. That is why you can test different types and different components in a safe environment under the supervision of a specialist. This allows you to immediately feel what is comfortable, what moves well and what you prefer.

What to look for when choosing a prosthetics centre?

A good prosthesis starts with choosing the right orthopaedic company. Consider the following points:

  • Comprehensive, personalised care: Are you being supported by a multidisciplinary team? With experienced prosthetists, orthopaedic technicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and psychologists, or just one person? Collaboration between specialists makes a world of difference to your recovery and comfort.
  • Innovation and prosthetic technology: Does the centre work with modern techniques such as 3D printing, electronic and bionic prostheses? New technology means a better fit, more functionality and a solution tailored to your life.
  • Experience with your level of amputation: Does the team have proven experience with your specific amputation, such as hand, forearm, upper arm or shoulder amputation for the arm, or foot, lower leg, upper leg or hip amputation for the leg? Specialised centres have expertise for each level of amputation and type of prosthesis.
  • Testing options: Can you test components or systems in advance? This prevents disappointment and increases wearing comfort.
  • Advanced measurement techniques: Does the centre offer gait analysis, pressure measurement or 3D scanning in its own gait analysis centre? Objective measurements ensure a more precise fit and better performance.
  • Cooperation with health insurance funds: Do they work with your health insurance fund? This simplifies the application and speeds up the process.
  • Own workshop: An in-house workshop guarantees quick adjustments and short waiting times.
  • Transparent communication: Do you receive clear information about options, materials, costs and reimbursement? Honesty and clarity are essential.
  • Accessibility: Are there multiple fitting locations or are home visits possible? This makes follow-up easier and less stressful.
  • Reviews and recommendations: What do other users say about their experience with the centre? Reputation is a good indicator of quality.
  • Aftercare and follow-up: How is the support after fitting? Are there free check-ups or quick help with complaints? Good aftercare is just as important as a good initial fitting.
  • Quality guarantee: Is the centre ISO 13485 certified? This shows that it works according to strict medical quality and safety standards.

Amputee Care Center by Spronken: all of the above boxes ticked!

At the Amputee Care Center, you are assured of total, tailor-made care. We work with the latest technologies, have specialised teams for each level of amputation, and offer extensive testing and measuring facilities. We are ISO 13485 certified and work closely with doctors, rehabilitation teams and health insurance funds. But above all, we really listen to you and provide you with personal, committed and professional support. So you can be sure that you are in good hands.

What does it mean that Amputee Care Center is ISO 13485 certified?

At Amputee Care Center, we consider quality and safety to be essential. That is why we are proud to work in accordance with the ISO 13485 standard, the international standard for medical devices such as arm and leg prostheses. This certification means that we meet strict requirements in terms of product quality, safety, traceability and care processes.

What does that mean for you in concrete terms? You can rest assured that your prosthesis will be manufactured and delivered by us in accordance with the highest medical standards. Everything is done with the utmost care and precision, from the first contact to long after delivery.

In short: with us, you not only receive a top-quality prosthesis, but also guidance and care you can really rely on.

What if I am already being treated at another centre?

Have you already had a prosthesis made somewhere else? That's no problem. You are always welcome for a second opinion or advice. We work independently of brands and discreetly. We respect the partnerships you already have with your current healthcare provider, but we are happy to see if we can do anything additional for you.

What can I expect from my first contact with your team?

From the very first contact, we will do everything we can to make you feel at ease. We will listen to your story, answer your questions and see how we can best help you. You can count on open communication, a warm welcome and good coffee (or something refreshing). The introductory meeting is completely free of charge and without obligation.

Can I also come if I have not yet undergone an amputation?

Certainly. In fact, it is especially valuable to be well informed in such cases. We will discuss with you and your doctor what you can expect before, during and after the amputation. This will help you to be better prepared and less afraid of the unknown. An early introduction often makes a big difference in recovery and acceptance.

Do you also make prostheses for children?

Yes, absolutely. At Amputee Care Center, we have a big heart for children and years of expertise in designing and fitting children's prostheses. An amputation in a child, whether congenital or caused by trauma or illness, has not only a physical but also an emotional impact on the whole family. That is why we offer specialised care that is tailored to children and their unique needs. Our paediatric teams specialise in all levels of amputation and types of prostheses.

What if my child grows very quickly?

At the Amputee Care Center, we take this fully into account. We work with temporary and adjustable prostheses that grow with your child. Thanks to accurate 3D scans or plaster models, we can perfectly adjust the fit whenever necessary. This allows your child to move freely and comfortably.

Children grow quickly and are full of energy. Their prosthesis must therefore be more than just functional. We make prostheses that move with their lives: light, sturdy, adjustable and comfortable. And just as important: we ensure that the prosthesis suits the child, also visually. For example, it is possible to get a prosthesis with the design of their favourite superhero. Together, we create something that makes the child feel good and boosts their self-confidence.

What aftercare services can I count on for my child?

Because children grow, we schedule regular follow-up consultations. We ensure that the orthopaedic device always fits properly and matches the child's development. This allows them to play safely, go to school, play sports and, above all, be themselves. All this with confidence and a smile.

How are parents and children emotionally supported during the prosthesis process?

At the Amputee Care Center, you can count on a warm, child-centred approach. We guide your child step by step in a safe and familiar environment. With playful explanations and room for questions, we ensure that your child feels understood, while you as a parent are actively involved in every step of the process.
