News: Establishment of foundation for serious conditions by the Spronken family

The Spronken family, active in orthopaedic and prosthetic care through Amputee Care Center, among others, has established the non-profit organisation Doortje. The organisation supports people with severe neurological disorders and their families with personalised medical, therapeutic and administrative guidance.

Passion for care with social impact

‘Every day, we see how complex it can be for patients with severe disabilities to find the right care and aids,’ says Caius Spronken, director of the non-profit organisation Doortje and Spronken Orthopaedics. ‘The non-profit organisation Doortje acts as a guide in the maze of healthcare, so that patients and their families can get the support they need more quickly and easily.’

The name Doortje is a tribute to Theodora “Doortje” Verschuren, Caius Spronken's grandmother, who dedicated her life to children with disabilities and herself developed Parkinson's disease.

The non-profit organisation Doortje combines individual support with social engagement. For example, the organisation organises events such as a benefit concert by a South African children's choir during De Warmste Week (The Warmest Week) and an auction of a unique jacket worn by Urbanus in the film Koko Flanel. The aim is to create understanding and connection between society and severely disabled people.

The non-profit organisation Doortje was founded in May 2025 and is already actively screening patients in MPIs and building a broad network of care providers.
