Comprehensive Care Is Key

In supporting prosthesis users, the Amputee Care Center places great importance on comprehensive care. This is once again evident during the Peer Support Day: through interaction with fellow amputees, families, and supporters; through knowledge sharing; and through exposure to the latest technologies. Our goal: to inform, inspire, and motivate.

Who is the Peer Support Day for?

This day focuses on peer support (for people with arm or leg prostheses from Belgium and the Netherlands), supplemented by presentations, workshops, information sessions, and a guided tour.

• People who use an arm or leg prosthesis (following an amputation or due to a congenital abnormality or congenital limb deficiency).
• People who are still undergoing rehabilitation or are considering using a prosthesis.
• Loved ones and supporters: partners, family, and friends.
• Doctors, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals (prosthetists, rehabilitation physicians, therapists).
• Patient organizations and prosthesis users from Belgium and the Netherlands.

Why is it worthwhile to attend?

• Recognition. You’ll meet people who are going through the same thing. That helps ease the feeling that you’re on your own.
• Practical knowledge. Others share how they cope with a prosthesis—including fit, skin issues, maintenance, sports, work, clothing, and daily activities.
• Insight into innovation. You’ll see the latest technology (bionic arms, electronic knees, special pediatric prostheses, and dynamic smart prostheses for active people) and learn what’s actually possible.
• Inspiration. Testimonials from people with firsthand experience show how children and adult prosthesis users are returning to sports, work, or getting their lives back on track. You’ll see how many older prosthesis users have found the courage to go for it again. 
• Information in one place. You’ll learn about the future of prosthetics, comprehensive care, support from infancy through adulthood, home care, hobbies, sports, and working with an arm or leg prosthesis.

• Networking. You’ll meet people you can reach out to later if you need help or answers to your questions.
