• Welcome To Amputee Care Center

  • powered by Spronken

At the Amputee Care Center, we make beautiful silicone fingers, advanced dynamic finger prostheses and robotic systems designed to improve hand and finger function. Our team of specialists will work closely with you for a custom-made device that is both practical and comfortable for you. We will also help you apply for reimbursement or reimbursement from your insurer.

Silicone finger prostheses

We design silicone fingers specifically to mimic the appearance of a ‘real’ finger as closely as possible. Our experienced anaplastologists (artists in making silicone prostheses) always fully customise these prostheses and can adjust them in detail to your skin tone and nail structure, for example.

At Amputee Care Center, we use high-quality silicone materials. This allows us to colour and shape the finger prostheses very realistically. Colour experts mix pigments to create realistic skin tone and texture. Details such as nails, wrinkles and veins are sometimes painted by hand. Thanks to the soft and flexible structure, you are also sure to be comfortable to wear.

Active finger prostheses

Do you have an amputation of one or more fingers and need more functionality? If so, at Amputee Care Center we also have active or dynamic finger prostheses. These are advanced prostheses that can mimic movement and help restore grip strength. Many people with active lifestyles choose this type of finger prosthesis.

Naked Prosthetics is a leading brand in active finger prostheses that we carry at Amputee Care Center. Their solutions, such as the MCPDriver, PIPDriver, ThumbDriver and GripLock Finger, are specially designed to restore the functionality of the hand as much as possible.

Hand and finger robots

At the Amputee Care Center, we manufacture advanced finger prostheses and robotic systems designed to improve hand and finger function. These technologies target people with amputations, but are also suitable if you have lost hand function after, for example, a brain haemorrhage or stroke.
A finger robot often uses surface electromyography (sEMG) to detect your muscle activity and control the robotic tool. This helps perform task-specific training and improves your hand function.

For people considering using such technologies, it is advisable to consult one of our specialists to determine the most appropriate solution for your specific situation.

Finger prostheses for children

For children with a finger amputation, it is of course first important that a finger prosthesis is comfortable and functional. However, the prosthesis should also be able to grow with your child's development. Many children with a finger amputation also experience more self-confidence with a good finger prosthesis or a finger or hand prosthesis.

The team of specialists at the Amputee Care Center guides both children and their parents through every step of the process, from initial fitting to periodic adjustments and checks of the child's prosthesis.

Who are finger prostheses suitable for?

n our experience, finger prostheses can be an ideal solution for various target groups, including:

  • People who have lost a finger due to an accident or medical condition.
  • People who want to improve their hand function for daily use, work or sports.
  • Children who need an aesthetic and functional solution that grows with them.

Do you doubt whether a finger prosthesis is suitable in your situation or what its added value is? We would like to invite you to our prosthetics centre for a free introductory consultation. You can also come to us for a free second opinion

Customised finger prostheses for work, sports and hobbies

At Amputee Care Center, we make customised finger prostheses and can also adapt them to your lifestyle, hobby, sport or profession. Some examples include:

  • Work-related finger prostheses: Specially designed for occupations that require precision and strength, such as carpentry or assembly.
  • Sports finger prostheses: Lightweight and shock-absorbing. We always make sports prostheses specifically for a particular sport. After all, every sport has its own requirements. At ACC, we have extensive experience in making finger prostheses for cycling, fitness, mountain climbing and skiing, for example.
  • Finger prostheses for musicians: Some prostheses we design especially for musicians, so they can (continue to) play instruments such as the guitar or piano. A well-known musician who plays with finger prostheses is, for example, guitarist Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath who is missing two fingertips.

How does a silicone finger stay attached?

A modern silicone finger prosthesis is often attached to the stump via a vacuum system or with special glue. A silicone finger prosthesis is mainly a cosmetic solution. We therefore also call it an aesthetic finger prosthesis. However, these prostheses can help with light tasks, such as typing or holding objects. Staying in place properly is therefore important.

What are the best dynamic finger prostheses?

The best finger prosthesis depends on the user's needs. At Amputee Care Center, we make finger prostheses with various components. Naked Prosthetics offers robust mechanical finger prostheses components for functional grip, while i-Digits Quantum (Össur) offers advanced myo-electric control for more natural movements. For people who want to improve hand function without amputation, robotic exoskeletons such as the Tactile Robotics Glove are ideal. The choice depends on factors such as grip strength, purpose of use, comfort and price.

How much does a finger prosthesis cost?

The cost of a finger prosthesis varies greatly depending on the type of finger prosthesis and the technology used. Ask us for a quote for silicone fingers, mechanical finger prostheses (such as Naked Prosthetics) or a myo-electric finger prosthesis (such as Össur i-Digits). The final price depends on the components and technology chosen and on any insurance or reimbursement.

Is a finger prosthesis covered by health insurance or mutual insurance?

A finger prosthesis is covered by Belgian mutualities and Dutch health insurers if there is a medical indication (MI) for daily functioning. A finger prosthesis that is only cosmetic is not always covered, but this depends on your insurer.

Amputee Care Center has been an official partner of all Belgian mutualities and Dutch health insurers for more than 60 years. We can inform you about this and take the entire process off your hands. So you don't have to think about this and leave the paperwork to us.

What Naked Prosthetics finger-hand solutions do you make?

At Amputee Care Centre for Prosthetics (ACC), we offer several solutions from Naked Prosthetics, including:

  • PIPDriver™: A body-controlled prosthesis for amputations or abnormalities of the finger at the proximal or distal phalanx.
  • MCPDriver™: Designed for amputations or abnormalities on the MCP joint of the index, middle, ring or little finger. This prosthesis restores natural grip function.
  • ThumbDriver™: A body-controlled prosthesis specifically for amputations or abnormalities on the MCP joint of the thumb, which improves opposition and grip strength.
  • GripLock Finger™: A passive, positionable prosthesis for amputations or abnormalities near the MCP joint, intended for use with a custom-made socket.

For more information or a consultation, it is best to contact us.

Do you have experience with Össur's i-Digits Quantum?

Yes we do! At the Amputatee Care Centre for Prosthetics (ACC), we have had positive experiences with Össur's i-Digits Quantum. This advanced myoelectric partial hand prosthesis, equipped with individually powered fingers and a manually rotatable thumb, allows users to exploit up to 32 automated grasp patterns. This significantly improves functionality and ease of use. Our clients particularly appreciate the Gesture Control feature, which allows them to easily change grip by making a natural movement, and the compatibility with the My i-Limb™ app for personalised settings.

How long does it take to get a finger prosthesis?

This depends mainly on the type of prosthesis. However, where you used to always have to wait several weeks to months, at Amputee Care Center we can often produce a basic or provisional finger prosthesis in just one day. However, making an active prosthesis or robotic finger orthosis takes a little longer, but we always do our best to help you as soon as possible.

Can a finger prosthesis completely replace the functions of a real finger?

Modern finger prostheses have many possibilities and, thanks to new innovations, more and more is also possible. However, it is important to have realistic expectations. A finger prosthesis can help improve your grip and other functionalities of your hand, but cannot completely replace a natural finger unfortunately. However, we at Amputee Care Center do all we can to ensure that your amputation is not a limitation, but rather your prosthesis is an enrichment!

Can I swim with a finger prosthesis?

Yes, some silicone finger prostheses are water-resistant. However, at Amputee Care Center, we always recommend getting a special sports prosthesis for sports activities. For swimming, it is also important that the prosthesis is made of corrosion-resistant materials that are easy to clean.

How do I maintain my finger prosthesis?

It is important to clean your prosthesis regularly. Regular cleaning helps extend the life of the prosthesis. However, always avoid harsh chemicals and excessive heat. Our specialists at Amputee Care Center will explain the best way to clean your denture.

Besides cleaning, it is important to have your prosthesis maintained and checked by a prosthetist annually. Not only does this allow us to spot any problems early on, but it also ensures that you keep your warranty. Annual maintenance of your prosthesis is free of charge at Amputee Care Center in most cases, even if your prosthesis was not purchased from us.

How long does a finger prosthesis last?

The lifespan of a silicone finger prosthesis is on average 3 to 5 years before a renewal is needed. This also depends on how the prosthesis is used. An active finger prosthesis can last longer, provided it is properly maintained.

Is wearing a finger prosthesis painful?

No, a properly fitted prosthesis should not hurt. Discomfort often comes from a fit that is not quite right. Do you experience pain because of your finger prosthesis? Then we always advise you to contact the specialists at Amputee Care Center as soon as possible, so that we can solve this for you quickly. You can also come to us for a second opinion free of charge.

How realistic does a cosmetic finger prosthesis look?

The cosmetic (silicone) finger prostheses we make at Amputee Care Center are super realistic. Thanks to colour matching and advanced texturing, our silicone finger prostheses are almost indistinguishable from a real finger!
